Welcome and Guidelines for Blogging

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our assessment class. In this blog you will find announcements, resources, instructions for assignments and, more importantly, your classmate's blogs.

Note:Don't forget to send me your blog's url.

In this entry, I will give you the guidelines for our blog assignment. Please read them very carefully.

1. One week you need to post and the next one you need to comment on, at least, three different blogs. Your comments should help the flow of the discussion, so you need to ask questions, elaborate on concepts presented by your peers, provide examples and critique (respectfully) your classmates' statements, among others. You can comment in any blog, regardless if the blog owner belongs to your section or not.

2. Sunday is going to be our deadline for posting. For example, we will start blogging the week from  the 27th to the 31st. That means, people in charge of posting the first week will have to do so on Sunday 26th, the latest. So, you should really plan because you need to read ahead of time. If you don't post on time, your entry will not be considered for grading purposes.

In this chart you can find what your role is going to be for the first week and on. If your last name starts A-M, you will belong to group 1. If not, you will belong to group 2.

3. Students in charge in commenting will be able to do so until Wednesday after everyone has posted. So, for our first week, 'commentators' will be able to do so until the 29th.

4. People can post about any of the readings assigned for that week. You decide which reading was more interesting, you can summarize, contrast, compare, synthesize, critique, comment, do a practical application exercise, relate the theory to your own experience, etc.

5. People who comment on other people´s blogs will have to publish a minimum of three comments. These need to foster discussion but also need to be extremely respectful and, more importantly, they need to be informed by the readings. Of course, any number beyond three is welcome.

6. Everyone should receive a comment. If you visit a blog and nobody has commented yet. Make sure you do. It is your group's responsibility to make sure every blog receives at least one comment every week. If your group fails to do so, everyone's grade will be affected.

7. People who post must also respond to the comments they get. It's basic 'netiquette'.

8. If you feel you have no ideas for your blog posts, please let me know and I will send you specific questions and prompts that you can use.

This is it for now.

If you have questions, just contact me.
